One of the most aggravating things about our corporate media is the language they use to describe very dangerous members of our society. The use of the adjective “Conservative” to describe the 20 individuals blocking the opening of the House of Representatives is perhaps the most egregious. There is nothing conservative about a group of insurrectionists aligned with Putin/Russia and intent on destroying the Federal Government, voting rights, separation of powers, and the rule of law.

The term “conservative” meant something meaningful before Trump was elected. Most of us would define a conservative as traditional, disposed to maintaining existing institutions, marked by moderation and caution, and committed to traditional norms of taste and manners.

Most of the media coverage of the multiple voting rounds has ignored the fact that the same elected officials involved in the insurrection attempt in January 2021 are asserting their power as elected officials to obstruct the democratic process, the opening of deliberations, and the work of the House of Representatives.
